Ferretology
What is Ferretology?

The study of ferrets!
Ferrets, like children, do not come with a manual. To help our members we will rotate information regarding:
   *ferret health
   *ferret behavior
   *ferret enrichment
   *ferret nutrition
Ferrets are very intelligent and energetic animals, so we need to keep up with them. Get your ferret notebooks ready!

What you can expect in the future;
*look for links on ferret health issues
    *information on behavior issues
    *ferret dictonary

The more you learn, the better ferret parent you can be for your fuzzy. This will be an evolving page, so check back often!

Happy Ferret Parenting!

MHFC Ferret Dictionary:

JAIL: This is the sound that a ferret makes when they are trying to get out of their cage. They bite the door to the cage trying to get out. This is especially loud on metal cages. Polly has a metal cage and everytime I leave for work she starts to "jail" to let me know that she is not happy with me.

CORRE LIBRE: Is a Spanish phrase that means "run free." I say this everytime I let Polly out of her cage. So everyday after I come home from work, the first thing that I do is let Polly out of the cage. She is so happy to get out of the cage, she runs as fast as she can and this is when I say
"Corre Libre!"

PIPE CLEANER: This is what our ferret's tails look like when they are surprised or scared or excited. Their tails will fuzz out and look just like a pipe cleaner. Remember those wire brushes in Chemistry to clean the graduated cylinders? Their tails look just like those brushes and it usually results in a lot of laughter out of the parents!

A GIFT: This term is used when our ferret's deposit an item that belongs in the litter box or on the paper. The goal is to not have your name associated with a ferret leaving you a "gift." It usually means you have to clean up the "gift." 'Gifts" are left in places by the ferrets to remind you that they are unhappy with you or just to remind you who is in charge!
